Island, 532 km. southeast of Puntarenas,
Costa Rica, is an oceanic island of volcanic
origin, with a land surface of 24 square
km. From a historical point of view, the
most important areas are the Chatham and
Wafer bays, the only feasible safe docking

Friends of Cocos Island Foundation
(FAICO) which was created in 1994
under the laws of the Republic of
Costa Rica is an independent, proactive,
non-profit, apolitical and multi-sectorial
organization, which is committed to
the long-term management, protection
and conservation of the Cocos Island
National Marine Park, World Natural
Heritage Site (UNESCO 1997) and Wetlands
of International Importance (RAMSAR
1998).
It is integrated
by distinguished citizens, businessmen
and women, scholars, government officials
and nature lovers who make up the
General Assembly, the Board of Directors
and the Executive Committee. Has an

which also out sources additional
resources for defined periods of time

Children from Pavas Discover the Treasure of Cocos Island
The Friends of Cocos Island Foundation (FAICO) and the company SC Johnson delivered an educational message to over 900 children from the Pavas area at the Carmen Lyra Public Library.
The play “A Treasure to Be Discovered” was presented Wednesday 29 through Friday 31 October, based on the educational book by Friends of Cocos Island Foundation (FAICO), which narrates the store of a child called Jorgito who experiences a series of adventures to find the real treasure of Cocos Island.
