:: Children from Pavas Discover the Treasure of Cocos Island

The Friends of Cocos Island Foundation (FAICO) and the company SC Johnson delivered an educational message to over 900 children from the Pavas area at the Carmen Lyra Public Library.

The play “A Treasure to Be Discovered” was presented Wednesday 29 through Friday 31 October, based on the educational book by Friends of Cocos Island Foundation (FAICO), which narrates the store of a child called Jorgito who experiences a series of adventures to find the real treasure of Cocos Island.

The show was presented by a group of five actors, whose acting abilities allow them to play their roles, sing, walk on stilts and juggle, making this a spectacular show. The play was put on stage by actors Luis Sánchez (Jorgito), Magdiel Ramírez (Turtle), Manuel Martin (Peace Dove), David Ho (Hammerhead Shark) and Jose López (Rat). These actors lend life to the play by involving children and adults in their story and are able to transmit the importance of preserving natural resources and making clear that is the Treasure of Cocos Island.

The play was presented to girls and boys from the schools Rincón Grande de Pavas and Daniel Oduber Quirós, who days before wrote an essay on Cocos Island. Some weeks ago some of the actors visited both schools and urged the students to write about this National Park and thereby participate in the writing contest, for which prizes were awarded on 31 October, during the last show of the play 1:00p.m.

One of the main objectives of the Friends of Cocos Island Foundation (FAICO) is to deliver a message of entertainment, conservation and hope to the children who will shape the values of our society in the future. This activity raised awareness among 1300 children from the Pavas area.
