Snowflake Moray

Description: Body white to yellowish background, with two rows of black irregular blotches, each containing 1-3 yellow spots, numerous small black spots between large black blotches. Somewhat blunt whitish snout. Eyes yellow. Slender, long snake-like body, no pectoral fins.

Habitat, behavior and biology: On rocky reef or in sand near reef, from 18 to at least 36 m (60-120 ft). Solitary. Lives by day in crevices and hotels, usually forages at night. Feeds primarily on crabs. Opens closes mouth when breathing. Shy, moves away when approached.

Abundance: Uncommon, Manuelita.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific, in eastern Pacific, from Baja California to Colombia.
