Lives by day in crevices and hotels, usually forages at night. Feeds primarily on crabs. Opens closes mouth when breathing. Shy, moves away when approached.

Lives by day in crevices and hotels, usually forages at night. Feeds primarily on crabs. Opens closes mouth when breathing. Shy, moves away when approached.


1. Jordan´s Snapper

Silver-gray to maroon body, eye red, tail truncate, pectoral, dorsal and pelvic fins reddish.



2. Whale Shark

Dark blue-gray to brown-black with a pattern of large white spots and lines above, fading into white below, three ridges along sides of body. Broad, flat head with small eyes just behind wide, terminal mouth. Unmistakable. Largest of all living fishes.



3. Commerson´s Frogfish

A large frogfish. Short, globe-shaped body, large mouth, simple lucre (illicium) ending in tuft; pectoral fins like limbs, skin often has filaments and flaps hanging off it. Color and pattern highly variable.



4. Cocosisland Finch
Pinaroloxias inornata Cocos Finch

Su cola es gorda y corta, con patas y dedos fuertes, pico puntiagudo y ligeramente curvo. Está cubierto de un plumaje esponjoso. El plumaje negro del pinzón recubre todo el cuerpo del macho, mientras que la hembra es café negruzca por encima, con escamado y con un listado café oliva que es variable. De jóvenes son parecidos a la hembra, con la diferencia de que tienen el pico amarillo.


5. Hammerhead Shark

Head broad and hammer-shaped with anterior notches. First dorsal fin begins above or slightly behind base of pectoral fin. Tips of pectoral finds dusky to black. Body gray-brown above, white below.




6. Zebra Moray
Gymnomuraena zebra

In crevices and ledges in reefs, from 3 m (10 ft) to at least 26 m (85 ft) depth. Solitary. Lives by day in crevices and holes, usually forages at night. Feeds primarily on crabs, mollusks, and sea urchins. Opens and closes mouth when breathing. Shy, usually retreats into crevices when approached. Has been observed foraging during the day.



7. Whitetip Reef Shark
Triaenodon obesus

Conspicuous white tips on first dorsal fin and upper lobe of tail, second dorsal fin and lower lobe of tail sometimes with white tips. A slender shark with a blunt head, gray brown above shading to whitish below. Extremely short, broad snout.



8. Rosy-Lipped Batfish
Ogcocephalus porrectus

Triangular shape; head and body flattened. Body armored by scales and spines, tan with dark brown blotches, on back, two spots (2 cm in diameter). Lips bright red. Tail banded.





9. Chinese Trumpetfish

Long and slender body, with a long tubular snout. Color variable from mottled green to brown with indistinct bars and stripes, white spots on posterior portion of body. A bright yellow form is uncommon.
