Costa Rican Digital Foreign Policy Magazine dedicates a special edition to take: A look at the Ocean

San José, May 31, 2024. The diplomatic work that the country has dedicated to protecting the ocean, also called blue diplomacy, will be disclosed in a special edition of theCosta Rican Digital Foreign Policy Magazine..

This Friday, the Manuel María de Peralta Diplomacy Academy, the institution in charge of publishing the magazine, launched the special edition:A look at the Ocean, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship.

In the activity, the the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arnoldo André, thanked the contributions of the scientific community and the Diplomacy Academy and stated that, “the launch of this magazine represents a prelude to the high-level event that we will hold next week, called Immersed In Change and which will be the venue for the exchange of good ideas among high authorities, representatives of civil society, youth, the scientific and academic community, as well as private companies and stakeholders who work to protect and defend the ocean.”

“During this event, we will promote the adoption of a Declaration of Peace for the Ocean: A Costa Rican initiative that promotes a global call to increase awareness about the role of the ocean on the planet and promote the actions that are required to change the relationship of human beings with the ocean,” declared Minister André.

Carmen Claramunt, Director of the Academy, stated that the publication “seeks to emphasize on the unavoidable link that must exist among science, diplomacy, and public policy to achieve the necessary objectives, often urgent and ethical. It is also a kind of tribute to the colleagues who have been working on these initiatives and efforts.”

This initiative, which has the collaboration of experts whose efforts are dedicated to the study, bringing to light the vital and strategic importance of this ecosystem for the survival of the planet increasingly supported by the robustness of scientific evidence, aspires to be a contribution in that sense.

The launch of the special edition of the Magazine occurs as one of the activities prior to the high-level event on actions for the ocean: Immersed in Change,which will take place on June 7 and 8 in San José, is a milestone on the path to the Third United Nations Ocean Conference -UNOC2025, co-organized by Costa Rica and France.

Representatives of scientific institutions and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country participated in the activity.
