Relationship between the movement of the fishing fleet in the Eastern Tropical Pacific and the oceanographic data of the region

At the beginning of 2018, Faico published the study called “Characterization and Analysis of the Pressure of Industrial Fishing in the Cocos Marine Conservation Area and the Nearby Exclusive Economic Zone of Costa Rica”, which evidenced the need to continue promoting this type of studies in the Eastern Tropical Pacific region.  For this reason, the Center for Research in Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR), UCR, and FAICO joined forces through a cooperation agreement to generate more information on the behavior of fishing activities in the ETP, incorporating oceanographic variables. Both institutions share within their vision the improvement of knowledge and promotion of actions that allow the proper management and conservation of marine-coastal ecosystems and biodiversity, improvement of their integrity, and the consolidation and effective management of protected areas.
